Our Story

About RØFE Living

RØFE mark

RØFE — named after the traditional volcanic stone (rofe or picón) of the Canary Islands, used for centuries in agriculture to retain moisture in arid volcanic soil.

Our mark — a single diagonal stroke — is extracted from the Ø at the heart of our name. It references the crack in volcanic basalt, the line through the stone. RØFE Living brings this spirit of authenticity and connection to the land into a modern, minimalist hospitality experience.

We're Santiago and Jemina. We moved to Lanzarote because of exactly the things we want you to experience — the volcanic light, the food, the silence, the surf, the sense that you're somewhere genuinely different. We started RØFE Living because we wanted to create places we'd want to stay in ourselves: considered spaces where everything is intentional, nothing is superfluous, and the island is always close.

RØFE Arrecife is our first building — three apartments in the heart of the capital, each named after an element of Canarian culture. RØFE La Santa is our studio by the sea. Everything we do starts from knowing this place deeply, and wanting to share it honestly.

What we believe

Our Values

Authenticity

No stock recommendations, no generic welcome baskets. Everything we suggest, we've tried. Every detail in our spaces we chose on purpose.

Rootedness

Our properties celebrate what makes Lanzarote singular — the light, the stone, the volcanic calm. We don't try to make it look like somewhere else.

Directness

We're here, on the island, reachable. If something needs fixing, we fix it. If you need a restaurant recommendation at 9pm, message us.

The Island

Why Lanzarote?

Lanzarote is unlike any other destination in the world. This UNESCO Biosphere Reserve captivates with its otherworldly volcanic landscapes, pristine beaches, and a unique architectural heritage shaped by the visionary artist César Manrique.

The island offers perfect year-round weather, world-class surfing, exceptional dining, and a vibrant cultural scene — all while maintaining an intimate, authentic character that most of the Canaries have long since lost.

It rewards curiosity. The more you explore, the more it gives — volcanic hikes, a wine culture unlike anywhere else, underground caves, a coast that never gets old. We've been here for years and we're still finding new things.
